A beef steer typically eats about 17 pounds per day of
dry matter grain, and gains 3 pounds per day in weight.
That's a ratio of 5.7:1. Since we know the animal
gains 400 pounds, we can calculate the total weight of
dry matter eaten as 400 * 5.7 = 2280 pounds.
Let's assume hypothetically, first, that half of the
800 pounds the steer weighs at entry is waste, leaving
400 pounds of edible beef. We further assume that the
400 pounds gained in the feedlot is all edible beef, so
we have a total of 800 pounds of edible beef. The
ratio of grain:beef, then, is 2280 / 800, or 2.85:1.
Let's relax the assumption a bit, and say that only 30%
of the intial 800 pounds is edible beef, and only 70%
of the 400 pounds gained at the feedlot is edible beef.
Thus, the total weight of edible beef is:
(.3 * 800) + (.7 * 400) = 240 + 280 = 520 pounds.
The TOTAL feed:beef ratio, then, is 2280 / 520, or
4.36:1.
NOW do you see why your methodology is completely
FUCKED UP, Dreck? No...no, I imagine you don't.
Stupid people like you never see the basic errors they
make. That's why stupid people like you wind up crippled. >> Stay informed about: Dreck's grotesque miscalculation of feed:beef |

I haven't forgotten anything, Dreck, you STUPID
shitwipe. You are mixing up numbers from two places.
You have written 16.8 pounds, and that's the number. >> Stay informed about: Dreck's grotesque miscalculation of feed:beef |

The 16.8 pounds of dry matter only accounts
for 65% of its total 25.83 daily ration given by
U.S.D.A., so you're quite wrong. >> Stay informed about: Dreck's grotesque miscalculation of feed:beef |

No. The 16.8 pounds IS the total weight of dry matter.
It is only dry matter that counts, because various
feed formulations are going to have various amounts of
water in them, and the water doesn't lead directly to
any weight gain. The protein from the dry matter has
to come first. >> Stay informed about: Dreck's grotesque miscalculation of feed:beef |
