Anybody got any sure fire remedies for getting rid of general smells
associated with having dogs in the house? We are about to sell our house and
we was totally oblivious to the dog smells untill the estate agent came
round to value the place and told about it. So if anyone has got any
remedies then we'd appreciate it
many thanks

Have you tried Febreze? The agent must not be a dog owner if she
noticed the smell!

Actually the agent is a dog owner maybe the smells are different with
different breeds?, as for the Fabreze it possibly only masks the smell I
think

We had a similar problem..
What we did was to tackle the cause of the problem..... Bathtime. Someone
was most unhappy about it, but he was a sweet smelling dog afterwards!
Then, we borrowed a carpet cleaner from Sketchly's and cleaned all the
carpets, and washed the curtains, and any other fabric in the house which
seems to absorb the doggy odour, including his bedding.
A few strategically placed bowls of por pourri, scented candles, and those
plug-in air freshners did the trick. Also, remember to give the house a
good airing before any potential purchasers visit.
Hope that helps a bit! >> Stay informed about: Doggy Smells |

Thanks for all the tips, someone also mentioned a product on the Ideal home
shopping channel on digital TV about a special product designed to kill
urine odour and as a by product it kills all animal smells - thats about all
I know on that, also maybe bitches smell worse tha dogs ???? certainly their
urine is stronger (check our lawns :( ) so maybe their general odour is??

Sorry to piggyback! Something else that will help sell a house is the
smell of fresh baked bread. I started my bread machine doing its
thing as soon as the realtor called that she was bring someone by to
look at the house. (The 2nd family that looked at the house bought
it.)

The only sure fire way to get rid of the smells and not just cover them up
is a good carpet cleaning. Often you can find the Stanley Steamer cleaning
specials something like 2 rooms for less than 60.00 or you could rent a
cleaner yourself.

The "pre-open house" strategy of baking bread or cookies is pretty passe . .
.. most buyers get highly suspicious of the obvious sales tactic these days.
As for removing pet smells, Fabreeze does a good temporary job, especially
on furniture, carpets and other fabric covered items. The same effect can
be approximated by rubbing some dryer fabric softener sheets on particularly
bad items. Another, albeit expensive, method is to rent an ozone generator
for a day or so to really knock down an odor in particularly bad areas. >> Stay informed about: Doggy Smells |
