I have a new problem. I can't wait to get over these hurdles and settle
down to the happy family!

Anyway, the dog(6 yoa) and kitten are getting along famously, after 2 1/2
weeks, even playing together. However, the dog is a bit too interested in
the litter box. I'm sure she has inhaled some and may even be eating it,
along with the kitty poop. I know this has to be bad for her since she is
sneezing and coughing. Clumping cat litter just isn't good for the nasal
passages, I'm sure ;-) She came out of the bathroom yesterday with kitty
litter all stuck around her mouth, the poor thing <I can't stop laughing,
but I know it's serious>.

I can't really put the litter box somewhere that the dog can't get to it but
the kitten can, without confining the kitty to her own part of the house. I
want them to be together to play and keep each other company anyway. The
litter boxes with a top have an opening large enough for the dog to get her
head in so that won't work, and I don't think the kitten is big enough for
one with a door.

Has anyone had this problem before and how did you deal with it? I'm hoping
there are drops, or something like that, to put on the litter that will
repel the dog but not the kitten????

Thanks for any suggestions :-)
M

I thought of that, but I don't have the tools or the skills. You wouldn't
happen to live near Fort Worth would you?

We keep the litter box in the bathroom therefore it was easy to solve the
problem by using a baby gate at the door. Our little Persian cat is agile
enough to jump over it with no problem and it keeps the dog out.

That's an idea, but I'd have to cut a hole in it or something because the
kitten can't jump over yet. The dog could jump over a normal baby gate (she
sometimes flies over the couch), but I'm not sure the prize on the other
side would motivate her enough to do it. It's something to consider,
though, and much cheaper than the purr-fect privy.

Thanks for the suggestion :-)

Try putting the litter box behind the door (I know you won't be able to open
the door all the way this way.) and putting the opening towards the corner.
Kitty jumps on top of litter box and then down to get in. Dog can't get
head in because he/she can't get to opening.
You only have to move it when you go to scoop. It's what my Mom did with
out cats and dog when we were kids.

HTH,

Joyce

Try a muzzle. It stops them barking, vomiting, drooling and eating the kitty
litter.

...... or loctite...
