I was interested to read a past thread saying that English and American (or
Canadian) budgies look quite diffeerent. Has anyone got any links to photos
comparing the differences please? Living in the UK, I know what an
"English" budgie looks like and didn't realise they were different around
the world.

Thanks - Elaine

North American Budgies don't have as large a head as English Budgies
seem to.

Yes it is true. The Exhibition budgies are bred to the point that they are
less hardy than the it's common variety. I've been told that the internal
organs are the same size as their common cousins. These same organs have to
do twice the amount of work to supply the entire body. I've noticed that
the smaller Exhibition budgies (mostly rare varieties) love longer than the
larger.

Typically the average life span of an Exhibition budgie is about 5-7 years,
the Rares seem to live a few years longer. The common budgies, live for
about 12-15 years, but due to over breeding by the feather merchants, it is
much less than that.

An english budgie is a show bird, an american budgie is a much smaller pet
type bird.
