When I brought Kiba home, he had coccidia. He was sick for weeks, and was
eating his poop too. Diarrhea is gross. That was a big no-no according to
the vet, as he could re-infect himself. He spent all his outside time on
the leash for two months, so he couldn't put his nose down. Once he was
cured, and a little older, no more poop eating. My new vet, whom I trust
much more than the original, says that poop-eating is very common with
puppies, and sick dogs, and most will grow out of it. The higher quality
food really helps too, I think. Since I've had Kiba on Orijen his poops are
firm and less smelly. Maybe less attractive? I don't know. But I'm sure
glad he doesn't do it anymore. Damn, it's hard to kiss someone on the mouth
when his breath smells like... well....
