Hi! My name is Big Boy. That's me on the left with my old friend Blackie
(he got adopted a couple of months ago). I'm about 3 years old. I'm a
striped tabby & the tip of my nose is rust colored. They say I'm pretty
handsome. Everybody talks about my eyes-one even wanted to change my name
to 'Davis' cause she says I have Betty Davis Eyes.
About 2 years ago I stumbled on this place where a bunch of cats lived.
Some people I didn't know came every day & left food for all of us. Some of
the other guys would sort of hog the food but I never minded. If I waited
in the bushes long enough, they would leave & there would usually be some
leftovers. Then one day, the people took me someplace called a vet. I
heard them talking about neutering & shots but I guess they forgot to give
the leukemia shots. Anyway, they put me back home with my friends & then
some new people came to leave food. One came in the morning & one came at
night & they put individual dishes for all of us so I didn't have to wait to
eat anymore!
I got to know these new people pretty well & I would run up to the car
whenever they came. Sometimes, I tried to follow when they left but I was
too scared to go into that big street. I got so excited at seeing them, I
got all tangled in their feet but I never minded as long as I could get
close to them. Sometimes they tried to touch me & I got real scared-I think
it reminded me of bad things from long ago. After a long time though, I
decided to let one of them touch me & it was nice! I liked it so much that
I wouldn't eat until she sat down & rubbed the top of my head, my chin, my
back, anywhere.
Things were good for a while but my friends starting leaving. Pretty soon
it was just me & another guy, Mish. But he went home every night &
sometimes he never even came out to play. I was pretty lonely. Then, all
of a sudden, it got real cold--colder than I can ever remember. The lady
who fed me every day took me home because she knew I couldn't handle it
being that cold. Her house was nice & warm & I thought I might become
friends with the other cats who lived there. But I never really met them.
The lady also took me to the vet-twice!. I heard him say that I was FelV+.
Funny thing, I've never been sick and the vet said that I'm in great shape
otherwise.
For a few days, I stayed in a place called a bathroom. It was nice & warm,
had this thing they called a litter box that is real convenient & keeps the
place clean & there was plenty of food. But I was real lonely in there &
started crying a lot. Now they've moved me to another room where I can see
my friend a lot more but I don't have that much room to move around in this
new big cage.
A lot of people have come to see me-they all rubbed my head & chin & all &
it was great! I still get scared when somebody tries to pick me up though.
I also met a big dog & he was real nice! Now I'm really scared though. I
heard the lady say I can't stay here much longer-she is really sad. I know
she's looking hard for a forever home for me. She doesn't think I
understand about what's going to happen to me if she can't find that
home-but I do. My friend Mish kept telling me it was nice to be in a
forever home-I believe him now. I sure would like to try. Would you please
try with me?
