My 9 year old daughter is pressing hard for getting a couple of
degus. In looking around our quite small city in British Columbia, I
found a number of adoptions available which surprised me since I didn't
think degus were all that common. This has made me wonder about why so
many are so freely availble and whether there are some downsides to
these guys that the books and websites aren't discussing or
emphasizing. As I call I will be asking owners, "why?" but throught
this newsgroup might be more candid than someone who want to give away
a degu.

No idea about degus but if you decide to get her a couple of gerbils
instead (VERY easy pets, and fun!) then by all means email me. I have a
couple of little ones ready for homes next week. I'm on Salt Spring.

Degus with long teeth - 1 of my Degu has very long front teeth (compared to the other...I'd say around 0.5 cm vs 0.2 cm). He can still eat normally...But I wonder if I should do something about it...I heard about clipping them with a regular nail clipper. Anyone has done this..
