well, what I was worried about has happened. My poor Charlotte, the
attention whore, got stepped on in the cat habitat on what they tell me was
possibly the busiest day in their history.

I came bearing an 8 pack of paper towels and there is like this double door
thing. First door must be closed before you open the second into the first
habitat. This is because there is always someone who scoots through as
soon as you open the second door :) This Sunday was no different.
Snickers escaped to the hallway. No worries. If my arms weren't full of
Brawny I would have picked him up and put him back since he is a gentle
kitten. But there was an elderly woman in there that let out a piercing
scream and nearly attacked me over "what I did!!!" and just carried on like
a banshee. Huh? Anyway, her daughter (assuming) tried to distract her
from violence against me though offered no apologies. I got the idea they
were looking for a cat for her maybe as a companion (though I pray to Bast
they would not leave the woman alone with an animal anymore than you would
leave a child, just common sense, that is all and not meant to be
mean-spirited).

There was a man in the back cattery that Charlotte lives in pulling out the
cages looking for some particular cat. And in general, it was a madhouse.
I am claustrophobic and probably more than a tad agoraphobic. But I didn't
cut and run. I called for the Sunday shelter volunteer and asked
Charlotte's wherabouts. Ava, I always know where she be and everyone knows
where Ava be, in the furthest open crate :)

I was told Charlotte had gotten stepped on (by elderly confused visitor) and
was in hiding and they peered under the cages for her. They found her, she
came out when I called to her and jumped on the chair (smart kitty, MUCH
safer than lying on the floor when looking for love in all the wrong
places). She did seem okay though I did email them to ask if she still
was.

For all those people who think I am some monster for not taking the now
pathologically shy kitty, Ava. I will take either! I can't take both,
this apt is too small practically for one litter box let alone two. If
Charlotte gets adopted before I can get out there Friday night or Saturday
afternoon, then I will consider it Bast's will and have them stuff Ava into
a crate for me. Though only the gods know how I would be able to get her
from room A to B when living with the non-central climate control here.

But I will grab Charlotte if she is still there because she needs someone
just as much as the shy kitty. She is too friendly and will roll under
foot of anyone trying to get their attention. Seriously. Lovable adorable
kitties, attention-craving friendly long-haired kitties need homes, too!

Sue,
Any time a cat, any cat, moves into a forever home, that is something
to celebrate. Don't try to guess or fret about what others might think
about your decision. It is yours to make. You know your situation
better than anyone else.

I'm relieved to know that Charlotte was not seriously injured when
that woman stepped on her.

Annie

Well I, for one, will be happy for you, whichever kitty you choose.

You know, people just want you to decide. Usually the cat makes the
decision and doesn't take long to do it. So long as a kitty gets a
onetruehome, thats all that really matters.

Did you adopt her, Sue? You don't need to second guess - Charlotte's
been waiting at the shelter for a long time. If you did get her, I'm
so happy for you, and hope that you'll have some stories to share!
