We've just found our beloved cat dead. It had been knocked down by a car in
a nearby road. Both myself and wife are absolutely heartbroken and were
wondering if anybody else has experienced this and may be able to offer some
sort of direction? We just don't know what to do with ourselves at the
moment:(
thanks >> Stay informed about: Death of a cat |

I know the feeling, experienced it one month ago ... I was and still am very
sad, especially because I only had the cat for a short while and it was a
very special one.
All I can do is to offer my condolences.

I've lost so many cats now ... 8? that I know the drill by heart --
Which is exactly what it feels like.
I care for strays that always seem to wander to the house (rural
area). I've spayed & neutered, picked them up out of the street, and
spent more times with one in my arms for the final needle than I care
to remember. I'm facing death now with my own cat, an 8 year old
male, from FIV. It's a terribly confusing symptomatic and fatal
disease that strains your heart with every look at your pet.
All I can say is that time does help heal over the wounds, and that
sadness and anxiety will one day turn to soothing memories.
My thoughts are with you -- take care. >> Stay informed about: Death of a cat |

I agree. That's why I wrote "[...] help heal over the wounds [...]."
The operative word being 'help'.
My first pet lived 17 years, and though I can still feel sadness when
I think of her, I can also remember many moments of happiness with her
that 'help' to mitigate the loss. But a loss is a loss no matter how
you cut it.
Some people think that becoming attached to your pet as if it were
human family is some sort of failing on one's part. I've never
understood this lack of compassion, other than to think it must be a
self- protective mechanism of some sort.
Anyone that has bonded closely with a pet knows how special -- and
irreplaceable -- that relationship can be. >> Stay informed about: Death of a cat |

I agree - but I feel I'm getting harder too, but in a negative way,
insensitive, if you like.
And there might be the time when I even don't want pets anymore.
Or is it all my fault if I lose my heart to a pet??

Hi,
We have experience this twice. We used to live near a main road & had 2
black toms. Sam the youngest, got run over when he was only a few months
old. The worst thing was we thought it was him by the roadside but weren't
sure, it was the days the dustbins got emptied & we think\know the
dustbinmen took him, which was awful as we would have buried him. The same
thing happened to Sooty some time later, we did find him & buried him. We
weren't sure about getting another cat but did, as I couldn't really live
without them, but I know it's how you feel. Tigger lived to be 16, she died
a couple of years ago, she was a fantastic tabby. We have a 3 year old
tortoiseshell now called Emma. She is a house cat, we got her from a
sanctuary, she has never been out, & is ideal for us as we live on a busy
road & ideal for her too.
I can only say I know how you must be feeling, & I am so sorry :( if you
can give another cat a loving home it would be nice as you obviously adore
them (I tried to reply to yr email address but it was undeleivered)

As a tribute to the "Late Cat", I would adopt a rescued cat. It will also
help to cuddle a new pet. It actually makes no difference whether or not
you have had them a long time or a short time, or if they were killed or
died of old age. It hurts just the same.
sorry for your loss.

Thank you for reminding me to everyday prepare myself
for the inevitable and to realize how precious every moment
is, not just with our precious cats. I hope you will be okay.
We have many cats and when one died recently we talked
to the other about it. Crazy, I know but their spirits are linked
I think, and the talk about the "Rainbow Bridge" on this NG
helped a lot too. >> Stay informed about: Death of a cat |
