Hi Group,
I have a very well natured female daschund, six months old, crate trained
house doggie that is a part of our family. We are condsidering getting
another dog to "keep her company". I know all dogs are different, but in
general how well do daschunds react with other dogs? We have had her since
she was about 8 or 9 weeks old. She is very well natured and seems to keep
herself entertained with her wide selection of toys we have for her, however
sometimes we just feel that she would enjoy a second companion. There are a
couple of neighborhood mixed breed dogs that she gets along well with when
she goes outside, this leads us to believe she would enjoy a "full time"
comanion.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Honestly, it depends on the individual dog. My 9yo female Min. Dachshund
has almost always had another dog in the house, one was a male Min.
Dachshund, the others were/are big dogs. She never cared much for any of
them. She doesn't openly dislike them, she's just not a big dog-dog player.
If she seems playful, rather than just tolerant, with other dogs then
chances are she'd appreciate a companion. If you get another dog, I'd
recommend a neutered male who is of similar size and age.

I am hosting 7-years old daschund of my friends. It's fascinating watching
at them ( he and my 1year WFT female) wrestling and chasing and kissing each
other. A week ago it was a third dog 5years old female WFT, the mother
of mine. More tension but mostly between mother and daughter.
Dasch is friendly, polite, smart - I like him very much,
really a pleasure to have him at home. Not aloof at all, playful.
Too much of a barker for my taste and aggressive to BIG dogs - a friend
of mine with his Golden suspended from visiting us for a while.
You know, we have like a circle of doggy friends and exchange
each other's dogs for vacation. If you have such a chance try it.
And obviously get yourself a Wire Fox terrier -- they match nice :-).

HOWEDY Chicha,
All dog behavior problems are caused
by MISHANDLING, not the dog.

Hi Puppy,
Thank you very much indeed for this enlightment.
Actually I do not care much about what caused his behaviour
having to return him to the owner soon.
Funny thing this male Dashhund never considered my
bitch as sexual object. They were together about two weeks.
He occasionally humped cushions and teddy bear and .. khm ..
my leg but never made a pass on her.
Last Friday I trimmed her ( The hair was ripe and Kappa
got mostly NAKED -- it's wire hair).
You won't believe Dachhund turn absolutely crazy about her right
after I made her hair and bathed and let her free.
He chasing her whining and barking two days non-stop.
And she is not in heat and the timing was so obvious in the
morning they played like babies and -- click -- two hours
later it gets like ex ex ex h_rny naked Fox terriers!!!.
She runs off him and if I close him he whines.
Weird question -- did anybody noticed that trimming/clipping
a bitch makes her more appealing for males?
Should I say more erotic?
Confused and annoyed

HOWEDY Chicha,
You won't need to get rid of the dog if you
study and follow the instructions in your
FREE copy of The Puppy Wizard's FREE
WWW Wits' End Dog Training Method
Manual.

I have two male mini poodles.. They never hump anything! But when I trim
their hair the older one chases the neutered younger one around for a couple
of days! It is comical but I will never understand it. I think it is
possible that the change in smell makes the older one want to reassert his
dominance. Interesting.

Interesting. Could be anxiety, but maybe not. Forget dominance.
It's probably lust!!!
