| I've been trying to find a way to contain my African Grey's dander and
feathers (and food) for several years now - and she keeps on defeating me.
I was wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions. If you are going
to send a wise-ass comment, please don't bother - I'm only looking for
viable alternatives. Thanks.....

Starting with the food - get a dog :) (not intended as wise-ass -
best auto-vacuum around)
Dander and feathers will probably never be controlled but I reduce the
spread with a small fan next to the cage (blowing away from cage) with
some foam a/c filter material taped to the back. This will be
completely white in days and can just be vacuumed off. If you find a
real containment, I'm sure everyone would want to know what it is !

We use an air cleaner with Hepa filter next to the cage with the air blowing
away from
the cage. The black pre-cleaner filter will be white in a few days. That
along with a daily
shower helps but it still amazes me how much dander one little bird puts
off. You might
also try misting down the cage a couple times a day. I am always picking up
feathers and
food but as Carolyn wrote our dog loves Zupreem. Good luck and happy
dusting! >> Stay informed about: Dander & Feather Containment |

Yes, ozone is harmful to humans and probably parrots.
A properly designed and maintained ion generator does not produce
ozone. Ionised air will precipitate dust particles. I am not sure I
would trust one near my CAG because of the harm it might do him.

Presumably they're talking about something like the Ionic Breeze.
I would have doubts about putting what is essentially an ozone machine
next to my bird. Stick with convention air filters.

You can buy detectors for most harmful gases out of electronics catalogues. Don't take the manufacturer's word for it, test the thing.

Thanks - could you suggest some catalogs and, specifically, what I would be
testing for? I'll certainly follow up.
