Post subject: DIY tank question
Archived from groups: rec>aquaria>tech (more info?)

I have read many of the build your own tank articles on the web. I am a
woodworker and have built/repaired wooden boats. Working with wood and
epoxy is not a problem. Building a tank actually looks very stright
forward to me.

All the plans I see are for one sided tanks. That is the glass is just
on one side. What I need is a tank that is open on three sides, the two
long sides and one end. Construction wise I don't see that it would be
much of a problem.

Strucutarally it looks to me that the forces involved are the same
whether the panel is glass or wood. If I am correct then cutting out
three sides and installing glass would be no different than one side.
Assuming the proper size of glass for course!

Has anyone built one like this? I sure would like to build my own. It
would save me some money and I could build in my overflows and returns
as I want them. Plus the wood frame would match the stand and hood I
was going to build anyway.
