I've never had an oranda for more than 4 years and I rarely hear of
them living more than 5. Yet "regular" gf frequently seem to live for
15, 20, 25+ years. Is it cruel for me to try to keep these cool
looking fancy fish if they have such a short lifespan? Do you have any
suggestions for types of gf that live a long time (I'm sure I could
get attached to anything)? Thanks

I suppose you could get some of those black fancy fish with the stick out
eyes? I kept some but when ever I stirred up all the gravel the fish soon
got swimmbladder and I soon lost the fish. I think every fancy fish need a
clean tank or they will soon get swimmblader.

I have two Black Moors. They are fantastic fish - greedy
but fun. They will destory every plant you ever put in the
tank, but they are so cute.
