Ahhh well they're all over the place in the Critter 3 after a day of
cautious and meticulous mapping of the cage and a lot of my niggles
have dissapeared.
The cage is a bastard, I'll not retract from that.. however, since
it's my first time keeping rats I do now see why that ladder to get to
the top floor isn't required. Hehe. :o)
I do have a few concerns with the 3 males as they're scratching a lot.
I'm waiting for tomorrow until I handle them as I want to let them
settle first, then I'll give them a comb and check for mites - if they
stay still long enough! they're about 8 weeks old now and from the
same litter.
I'm even finding i'm itching a bit! I don't know wether that's just
psycological tricks or what.
I also have a question which Google has failed me on. The size of
their balls - they're pinky/red and quite big. Is this normal? It
looks like a small pudgy soare foot attached to the back of them under
where the tail starts.
Apart from these 2 concerns, they seem fine to me.
Boy they've scrapped today - nothing serious... a few squeeks here and
there. They seem to nibble at each others chests a bit to.. I'm
wondering if this is mite related - nibbling the mites off each other
or something? Praps I'm barking up the wrong tree here.
Anyhows... I think they've finally decided to take a nap and so I'll
take the oppertunity to get some zeds in myself. :o)
Night night folks.

ROFL!!! My hairless rat does that with her head. It cracks me up. My
husband is always doing a robotic voiceover for her swaying head - "Scanning
for life forms. Life forms detected.". It is just one of those things I
adore about her. Being hairless, her ears look taller, too, so that REALLY
looks funny. I love it.
It was so funny when you said "He's gonna get a funky name I'm sure." I
just about spit out my coffee. LOL

Cheers for this advice - I've had a problem looking for health
information for young ones. Great stuff. You wouldn't happen to know
any resources specifically related to young rats would you Jo?

Albinos can have difficulty with their eyes that others don't.

Yup, I've figured roughly the ammount they eat now and make sure they
have plenty before for the night and next day when I goto bed.
I think I should consider ear plugs too - 12am and 4am just isn't a
good time to be bouncing around, shake rattle and rollin'. :o)
Cheers,

I've thought about earplugs myself. That would save me from having to get
up at 3am to oil Talula's exercise wheel... and she's in another room! That
thing is so high-pitched that I'm surprised there's any glass left in my
place.

Sorry Jo, still no names. I have no idea - I'm going to let my friends
name them - unless any of you have any nice suggestions.
Albino who has trouble seeing
Black hooded cutie with a broken black line going down his back
Then there's the most social one upto now who is grey hooded with a
completely white body.
Bare in mind you're talking to the person who named his Gerbil
'Fluffy' when he was younger. I've never been very good with names.
:o)
And they're 'Popcorning' right into the early hours 5 feet away from
me in their rattly Critter 3! lol.
I'll make sure you lot are my first line of information!

I know what you mean..
When I first got my Rats I was soo paranoid about the Cats that I would
shift the Rat House into our Bedroom. There would be peace and quiet and no
sign of the boys, but the minute the lights were out, heaven help us. It
sounded like they were on a mission from Hell...LOL. Now that we have gone
from 6 to 13 they all have to live in the lounge and we double check all the
rooms to make sure no Cats have been left in...LOL.
Regards Kate

"Shadow" for the Gray Hoodie..? "Casper" for the Albino? and for the Black
Hoodie.."Dash"..? I have two black hoodie brothers and in hindsight I wish
I had called one "Dot dot" and the other "Dash"... kinda matched their
markings..LOL. These are just some suggestions...:)
