Cots on Monitors

I have just been reading a book called "You're okay, your cat's okay"
which has some interesting observations and tips. It does mention a
cats like for monitors but points out that if cats habitually sleep on
a monitor they expose themselves to huge amounts of radiation which, of
course, is not good for them.

I just put lots of "things" on top of my monitor which makes it
impossible for my cat to sit there. I started doing this a while ago
after one of my cats was sick while on top of my monitor...after having
to fork out for a new monitor I wasn't so keen on them sleeping there!
....and especially not after reading about the radiation warning.

Back when my Siamese (RB16) was alive, she discovered the VCR in the
office and decided it was a nice place to sleep. This went on for a long
time. The VCR was only used on occasion so I didn't mind. One day I
decided to record something and discovered the thing was dead. She had
managed (I guess) to turn it on and it had burned out. MLB

Mr. Nobody,

You may be right, I was merely stating what I had read - besides, I'm
not sure how you use your monitor but I do not sit 2-3inches above the
actual cathode ray tube.

monitors today are low radiation.
television sets built over 50 years ago did have some radiation however

Absolutely, this is probably the main worry. Monitors have so many vents for
a reason.

Last year I was working at the computer when my monitor suddenly started
smoking in front of my eyes! I panicked and quickly switched it off.
Needless to say it was dead. Luckily though I was there to see this and
switch it off on time. Had I been outside the house, Gosh, I'm scared to
think what could;ve happened. And that was with monitor uncovered.

So no, don;t let your cat sleep on monitor! Too dangerous for everyone!

i did a repost a few days after his teeth were extracted...
they removed 4 teeth and he is doing fine.

the first thing he did when i brought him home from the vet
was to go over to his food bowl and eat!!!!

since he's 17 years old i was pretty worried...
but he came through just fine...
and though he mostly eats canned food...
he seems to have no problems with dry

he appears to be completely back to normal

No, you sit 12 to 24 inches (more than likely) in front of the largest
surface area of the monitor, directly in front of where the phosphor
lining of the CRT is being bombarded by electrons.

You do the math.

As mentioned further up in the thread, the monitors dont radiate much any
more, and the monitor screen have a filter that block the radiation.

So the math is, you are getting very little radiation in front of a modern
moitor.

Thanks for all the responses. I called Indy's doctor today and she said that
she knows of no health problems from cats sleeping on monitors.

Indy does not ask for much so I'll let him sleep there.

Erm...What about the fire danger??????

If you gonna let him sleep on monitor, dont let him cover the wholes, but
only let him sleep on the front bit.You wouldn;t let a cat sleppon TV for
the same reason.
