We have this 10 year old female Lab.
Her ears are a continuous source of problems for us.

Even though we got this cleaning fluid from the Vet to flush her ears,
and then bit later to administer some ointment the problem is not going
away.

Forever we are getting this brown gunk coming out of her ear.

Been thinking of having her put under so the Vet can do a more
'surgical' cleanup and application.

Anyone any clues please.
It's been going on for too long.

Much thanks

First, what food are you feeding her, as corn and by-products can cause
allergic reactions. If the cleaning fluid is Epi-Otic or similar PH formula
(like vinegar), that is good but might take a while if you've ever swabbed
her ears with Q-tips and rammed the gunk down her ears. My friend's Lab
needed surgery to deep clean her ears after doing this.
There are other homeopathic remedies using various oils externally, but I
give Caitlin fish oil caps daily (flax seed oil is good, also), as well as
live yoghurt occasionally. The yoghurt helps with yeast infections that
occur in the gut, but manifests itself in the ears and itchy feet.

Try feeding a food without corn or wheat. Perhaps it is a good allergy.
Bubba has done much better without the corn and wheat.

Is it humid and hot where you live? Is there afowl oder from her ears? Im
thinking a fungal infection. Keep her ears clean, dry and let air get in
there if you can. I had similar problems with my golden.

I would have guessed that the vet would have been able to diagnose a fungal
infection. My guess is food allergy.

Xerxes, what are you feeding her? I had some minor problems with my guy
until I managed to find a food that worked for him (not necesarily the most
expensive food, its got to be the food that works for her).

This is going to sound stupid but has the vet checked for ear mites? Is your
dog uncomfortable or are you uncomfortable about the sight of the brown
goop? Has any thing changed in your house hold, new food, person or pet? Its
strange but I had a friend who's dog got yeast after yeast infections in his
ears and they could not keep it away. Come to find out the other dogs had
been liking into each others ears, social grooming, and keeping it wet and
sore in his ears.

Have you tried a powder ear cleaner? It might be it needs drying out not
necessarily flushing and cleaning out.

I would be a bit concerned with putting a dog of that age under for any
procedure.

goodluck,
