Hi,

Recently, I have noticed that Sifl seem to have lost some weight. I am
not exactly sure because he has also been shedding & about 2 or 3 weeks
ago at the vet they weighed him & mentioned that he's ok (2 kg, it's
his normal weight). I could feel the bones significantly on his back,
he seems to be eating well, playing etc. I was already concern but
today I found some much smaller poops in the litter boxes. (don't know
if it's from him or our other rabbit).

When is it too skinny for a rabbit?? Does age has to do anything with
his bones protruding? (he's about 4.5 years old) I would bring him to
the vet but I was thinking about waiting out over the weekend, just to
see how things go. Is that a good idea? Btw, I have been listening to
his stomach & it's pretty silent.

Thanks,

Carolyn with Sifl & Mono

Shedding is a very calorie intensive process. I had a hospice bunny who
would lose weight every shedding season. She just got double her pellet
ration until shedding season was over and all was well with the world.
I've had other bunnies who would go off their food during shedding
season. Some were just cranky (I expect shedding itches).

I wouldn't let a few smaller poops over a day bug you too much if he's
still eating well. Keep an eye on him over the weekend. Make sure you
have phazyme on hand, just in case, but it sounds like it's just
shedding.

Does Silf drink alot? renal failure can set in at any age. The
youngest i've seen is 2 yrs old. There is no cure for it - just
maintaining a happy bun until the end. Blood work can show kidney
values.

Also cancer can cause really skinny buns. i had one with cancer in her
hip, she lost alot of weight - i knew it was in her hind end when she
started to limp. we took xrays and saw her hip eaten away by
osteosarcoma. :(

I hope it's something simple though...
