Weird, today his leg is straighter and working better. How can that be? Does
arthritis change so much? I know he has had worse and better days, but the
difference is remarkable.

I'm also wondering if whatever is going on in his leg/spine involving the
nerve endings is affecting his having the feeling of having to pee or poop.
He peed on the deck today, but he is fully capable of coming in. He came in
when it was time for salad. He tends to poop wherever he is standing or
eating.

I've noticed he doesn't seem to realize that some cecals have exited and he
just lays in or steps on them.

I've been wondering about the 'feeling' idea for a long time now.

I did up Cocoa's Metacam dose from 0.15 cc's to 0.20. I don't think it is
pain causing the problem, just deterioration of spine/hip/leg/foot...some
combination of those. I never did get him thoroughly examined or xrayed;
mainly because I thought it was a pretty straight forward aging issue. The
vet seemed to agree.
The Metacam has helped tremendously...I figured I may have to increase the
dosage as we go. 0.45cc's is the highest dose according to Medirabbit.com

Towards the end with Bear I stopped worrying about dosages. As morbid
as it sounds, I knew the end was near and was way more concerned about
keeping him *comfortable*. The way I figured it, he was dying anyway,
so there wasn't anything bad an overdose of painkiller could do to him.

Good luck with the old guy. Give him hugs from me.

Have you given Cocoa a peanut? Laura (Bisky) and others have felt that
this is practically magic for hind leg mobility.

That would be blatantly untrue.

LOL...Cocoa gets a peanut every morning actually...so far, it hasn't helped,
except to entice Cocoa out of his hidy holes :)

Thanks Laura, I understand what you're saying...so far Cocoa is still
generally very healthy. He runs outdoors...he goes fairly straight when he
builds up momentum, and he enjoys playing in the neighbour's garden. He
spends his day lazing on the second floor deck behind the bbq with his
blanket canopy. He also relishes his veggies and treats. He still uses his
litter box consistently.

I figured he may need more metacam if things deteriorate...I play it by ear
as I see him in pain. It seems very good tonight: curious and exploring the
bags I brought in from the store; that shows improvement.

Ok Beth, I was reading about the Adequin; how do you give it to your bunny?
Do you buy it from your vet? It sounds very expensive from the various
websites I've see that sell it.

Do you give it long term?
I will ask my vet about it. Thanks again.

Check out some horse sources for this info. Dosage is not the same,
obviously, but you might be able to find a better price from Country
Supply or other equine suppliers (or go to a training barn and see if
you can go in with them on a purchase).

Cosequin is another of the same sort of thing.

Yes Joyce, I saw the equine adequan thanks, though one still must have a
veterinary prescription. I don't know where our vets in Canada get
theirs...I'll hear back from the vet tomorrow hopefully.

From what I read, Cosequin is another combination of
glucosamine/condroitin...Cocoa is already on glucosamine HCl. I don't know
if it is helping for sure. Adequan is somewhat different in how is works.
One site suggested taking them together.
