Thanks for all the input, it was really pleasent reading apart from a little
bug that posted stupid hate remarks. I am new to this board, you all just
seem to ignore it, so I will from now on just do the same and block him out.
(assuming you all have set your Outlook to delete his incoming)

I have noticed our baby cannot gain alltitude after about 15 feet, aparently
her wings have not been touched for 2 years. She also hesitates for 5-7
seconds before her launch, so she is quite aware that she can not fly very
well. After reading all these posts, we have decided to leave her alone. In
fact we are helping her excercise her wings, I seriously doubt she could
take off from the floor. (must try it). I have tried to look at her wings,
however she does not let us touch her there yet, I find myself jumping to
the floor when she flies, in hopes that I can see the wings, and if they are
complete. Even when she is perched on my hand, and I let her fall with my
hand, she dosen't fully extend her wings, and keeps them close to her body.
She dosen't thud, however, they are not the prettiest landing.

I was talking to a another bird owner, who had a parent rasied Budgie, she
used to be an amazing flyer, hovering, swooping the whole works, once her
wings were clipped once, even after them growing back, she never flew the
same again.

Without any doubt, this Grey will not have her wings clipped while in our
care, either will any bird for that matter. I think, if you are scared your
loved one will fly away, a pet carrier is the best thing, which brings me to
my next question

Has anyone tried using the tools that are used for birds of prey? (Chain,
hood, ect.)

Darrell

Have you a video camera? They move so fast it's impossible to see, a freeze frame might help. I've taken flight pictures with a stills camera, set to 5 photos per second, but I still have to take about 50 to get one decent picture!

Like I've said before, I don't like messing with nature.

I've used a harness. Works well on my cuddly scarlet macaw, but not on any that will bite!

Good for you, well done! The best choice imo, my lad loves flying around
the room, they get better with practice and I believe it boosts their
confidence not weakens it :-)

Yes, your bird will love you for it. When I rescued my Nobby his wings
were just growing back, now he loves to fly once or twice per week and
is a happy chatty cheeky affectionate bird after 3 years of love and
care, he now trusts a human again, I couldn't bear to clip his wings I
fear it could damage his trust again. I would never do it anyway.

I think them tools are only for birds of prey. Have you considered an
aviary? They're pretty inexpensive and your bird can fly and have fun
with the security from escape.

Clipped wings question - Hello fellow Grey fans, We recently bought a beautiful Grey, her wings are not clipped, while there is no problem for her to stay that way, I was wondering, would it be better to clip her wings during the adjustment periode of her new home. And what ....

I guess my birds are weird (long) - I have been reading all of the so called information being passed out in this group. I cannot believe that my birds are the exception to many of the things being said here. My CAG gets along well with both my husband and I. She has been known to go over....

sadbird, sad owner ( kind of long) - Tuesdays I work at the local Vet's office. I am usually only there for the difficult surgeries. The vet told me we had an African Grey coming in for a wing trim and nail trim. She told me I would remember them when they arrived. The vet is not board..
