It depends on the bird. My Grey lets me clip her toenails but if I tried
that with my Amazon I woudn't have any fingers left.

those only work if the bird uses the perch like a cat uses a scratching
post. and, with the elder birds, they become hard on the feet.

is it true the smaller the bird, the more feisty they are and they hate to
be petted....but the bigger the bird, the more it tends to be ok to pet it?

And your evidence for this statement is...............
I have around 60 birds of all ages. I use pollys pastels. I never trim
nails. Birds do not need to use them like cat scratch posts at all, they
simply need to perch on them. As for them being hard on a birds feet, how do
you suppose birds cope with hard old tree branches in the wild. My friend
you are talking nonsense.

Thanks all for the replies.

I think I'll try the pollys pastel perch rather that than putting on my old
motorbike gloves and attempting a DIY job.
I know for sure my OWA wouldn't take too kindly to anyone attempting a claw
cut and would no doubt bite.

The PP perches are meant to keep a birds nails in a trimmed state. They are
not meant to do an all out trimming. You'll need to get your birds nails
trimmed, then use a PP perch to keep them that way.

Be sure to get the correct size. Place it as the highest or roosting perch.
They come in a great range of shapes too. My U2 has a 'twister' whixh she
loves, but you can get them as part of a swing too. IMO it is a safe and
natural way to keep claws trimmed.
