I'd taken her out of the Mansion coz she was staggering. Put her on my
bed for some r&r while I did stuff and kept checking on her. Still
bleeding, well, seeping blood anyway. Left her alone and when I went
back to check her about 5pm I found her all sprawled out in the
breeze. Lay down with her, gave her a drink, felt her back legs
twitching. They couldn't hold her up any more. It was like when the
boys were babies, with the twitchy electrical pulses they had. Just
before 6pm, she was laying there with 'given up' vibes. I was holding
her as she lay on the bed, legs still twitching, breathing slowing
down. About 6:05 I picked her up and lay her on my chest, stroked her
head with one hand, held her rump with the other. Said she could go to
sleep, as time went on, she did the gasping thing, stretched out,
breathing slowed right down. By 6:07 her whole body was quivering, she
stretched out a couple of times, gasped and that was it. It took two
more minutes for the quivering to stop though. Not sure what that was.
I felt a lump in her tummy, so maybe she had a tumor. I am not that
upset about her dying. She had an extra month, and I am fairly sure
she had a good life. She is buried out the back with the other girls.

cheers,
M&m

I am having trouble finding the correct words. It is awful to lose our
babies, but I find it comforting to be with them when they pass. I hope you
find comfort in knowing that your Christmas was with the one who loved her
best when she moved on.

Love,
Lynn

She is the first one to have died while I was there, so in a way I was
honored that she let me, you know?

One of our babies died in my daughter's arms. (Andrea is 15.) It was a
moving experience for her. She was "honored" as you say. I don't know, but
it gives me greater respect for these animals. I do believe that they are
greater than us when it comes to bearing pain and acceptance.

Again, my shoulder will bear you if you need,
Lynn kitty

Absolutely.

Our first rat, Obie, was my son's. They were very close. In the end, Obie
was clearly ready to go. But he held on for a couple of hours until my son
came home. Then the two of them curled up together and Obie passed on
within a couple of minutes. I am completely convinced that he waited until
he could be with my son.

Even if they don't know what is happening to them, it is an honor that they
want to be held by us in the last moments.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Christmas was not alone when she went and knew
she was loved.
