I have a 1year old cat. I feed him and my other cat Iams dry cat food. The
older cat never throws up but our 1 year old eats and then throws up his
food several times each week. It does come up fairly solid which makes me
believe he is just eating too fast and not chewing properly. I just wanted
to check and see if anyone else may have this problem.

Isis is about six years old. What she wants is a 24 hour all-you-can-eat
buffet. What she gets is very controlled feedings. The reason is that if I
leave a full bowl of food for her she will eat and eat and then I end up
cleaning up the semi-digested kitty puke messes.

Some cats will do this. They'll gorge and upchuck. I read somewhere that
they have very sensitive 'overfull' sensors that cause them to throw up.
This problem occurs more frequently when she has swallowed too much hair. I
can tell when she's due for a bath by how frequently she grooms herself. If
you have a long hair kitty this can be part of the problem.

Are you leaving a full bowl for this one year old? Perhaps you can try
cutting back on the portions and adding more food only when the bowl is
empty. It's more work but it might solve your problem. It does for me.

Yes my Rumble does this sometimes. Have you tried doing smaller portions or
different feeding times

Guess I'm lucky. I feed my <2 year old Deetoo Iams dry cat food exclusively,
(that's all she will eat) and she's never thrown up anywhere that I've seen.
I replenish her bowl with one cup every evening and it's rare when she goes
through it all before I replenish it again.

I had a cat who did the same thing - eating too fast. I don't want to
start World War III - but I think that wet food is better for them than
dry. Maybe try canned food and only give in small amounts.

Do cats in the wild eat dry food?

I wonder how you'd go with a dehydrated BigMac(tm) with a bowl of water.....

Seriously.

I have read that giving dry food exclusively is not good for cats. I discuss
that matters with my veterinarian and she agrees. Try giving your cats can
food by introducing it gradually. You should aim at giving them at least
half of their food as can food.

My ex has 2 furballs both about 4 years and they both have eating dry
and canned (Moist) since the day we got them and one of them does the
same thing!! Some times it comes out looking almost the shape of a
hotdog. Very seldom is it runny / soupy. The other one has never had
this problem.

My wife and I got 3 kittens (sisters) about a year ago and one of them began
throwing up her food on a regular basis - neither of the other two have had
any problems. After several attempts by the vet to figure out what was
going on, she had a test done for food allergies. With the results of the
tests, we were able to find a food she was able to eat. She still thows up
once or twice a month but is now up to normal weight and maintaining.
