My new cat Max comes into the bedroom in the morning and does this
strange thing where he digs his claws into me and seems to push his
head into my body while gently biting and licking me.
Is this because he wants his food ? After he gets his first meal he
does not really want to bother with me.

| Sounds to me like his way of telling you he's hungry.
If he's a very young cat, it could be he's still using the
same method as a kitten kneading on his mother.
I guess if it works for him, then why change?

That's what kittens do when they feed from their mothers...
It very often carries over into adulthood.

right into me!!!! >> Stay informed about: Cat clawing in morning.. |

And you forgot to mention that this kneading is often accompanied with heavy
duty purring. I learned pretty quickly to trim her nails because without it,
the kneading can become very irritating. When my Deetoo is kneading and I
stroke my fingertips down her spine, she purrs so hard she starts to snuffle
like she's got a cold or something. She usually does the kneading when I'm
at my desk working on the computer and after about ten minutes, she does her
circle dance and then drapes herself over my left arm. I've become very
adept at typing on the keyboard with 12 lbs of cat laying on it. >> Stay informed about: Cat clawing in morning.. |

Yes indeed, I can barely see his head and the vest I had on was soaked
in patches.

Yes .. all that has been said in reply is undoubtedly true. I would also
like to add that it's important never to shout at or punish a cat for this -
even if it hurts! Because this touching behaviour relates so strongly to
the cat's loving kittenhood, it is essential to be kind, otherwise it can be
very hurtful and stressful to the cat. In effect, you are the cat's mother
rejecting its kitten at the most needy time in its life.
