Good GRIEF he loves it. I've found a nice big (calm)pond between two
branches of the Payette river a mile from home so that's going be our
swimming hole. I've only ever had one dog that liked to swim but with more
of a goal in mind rather than for obvious enjoyment such as Carmine
showed. It's a dream come true to have a dog that loves to swim slowly
through the water for nothing more than the sheer pleasure of it.
Turns out I don't need to bathe him either, he smells sweet and clean
and with the hot dry heat here today he was dry in a couple of hours or
so.

Second endearing behavior of Carmine's is his need to grab a toy when
he's missed you, is greeting you as you come in the door or if he
hasn't seen you all night because you were asleep. The kids had
really gotten him hooked on rawhide bones so that used to be his
thing to grab but we're not fond of those things at all so he's
had to make the switch over to toys instead. This is called his:
"chewie" because that's the word he already knows for it.
Therefore, stupid conversations in the mornings go something like this:

"Good morning Carmine! Got your chewie? Go show mommy your chewie."
Carmine: Der-hey shucks!! Hark! I am Lab! I swing my butt in a 180 degree
arc! I chew for you! I wag my tail for you! NOWLETSEATRIGHTNOWIMSTARVING!

Camera follows Carmine as he takes his chewie and proceeds everyone to the
coffee pot, herding us up to ensure we eventually get pointed in the
proper direction which is, of course, the food closet meanwhile muttering
to himself in dismay about his lack of opposable thumbs.

He sounds like a happy, happy boy!

Harriet says that it helps if you *sing* to the food closet.

dog swimming in sea - Hello I like to swim in the sea, is it OK for my 1 year old Colly/lurcher dog to join me. Yesterday I took him to to the sea, I walked out to about my middle and he swam for his second time. He seemed to love it but at the same time he seemed unsure...

swimming everyday? - would swimming work as an everyday exercise? i'm looking at an adorable houseboat, and i'm concerned that there isn't a yard for Manu to play in. however, he likes to swim, and there's plenty of water. we're in a temperate area, so the water stays..
