I was at the lps today and noticed they sell at least three different types
of carbon. One was activated carbon, another was high density carbon, and
they had a third name for the stuff they sell in bulk. Does anyone know the
difference between them? I've been using mesh bags in my aquaclear 300 and
want to buy the cheap stuff if theres not much difference. Thanks.

There is more grades of carbon than you really want to know ;~) Most of
what you find in LFS is either activated carbon, or mixed with ammonia
absorber (ie: zeolite). Buy the cheap stuff and replace it every 2-3
months if you want to continue using carbon. Some people do not use
carbon, and most use it selectively, so do a little research. For
example, I don't use carbon on naturally planted tanks, ymmv.
