Hello,
I just got a Black Kingsnake for my birthday, from my boyfriend. He is
absolutely beautiful. I do have a couple questions for anyone out
there.
~ is it a major problem if he hasn't eaten? I've only had him for 4 or
5 days, but I tried feeding him last night and he was completely
uninterested? The pet store said to feed him on Tuesdays. It was a
frozen mouse; is there something I can do to make him more interested?
~ How often should he be eating? The pet store said he was about 2 1/2
years old and he is probably 3 feet long or so.
This is my first snake, I love him to death, he is absolutely
beautiful, but I don't know a whole lot about feeding and such. I just
want to make sure that I am doing everything right and anything I can
to make him happy!
Can you post pictures as well on here??
Thanks to anyone who can answer these questions!

First, don't panic. A snake that size could likely go a couple months
without eating with no problem. Second, bookmark www.kingsnake.com
You can find caresheets there as well as discussion forums.

A couple quick thoughts on getting him to eat. I presume that you are
thawing the frozen mouse, but try warming it up to 100 F or so. Some
snakes will take mice off tongs, but others do best if you simply
place the food in their cage and leave the room.

If you post about him on www.kingsnake.com, make sure to tell about
what type of enclosure you have him in and what the temperature is.
Ideally, you'd have a warm side in the low to mid 80's and a cool side
in the mid 70's.

Put the mouse in a ziplock bag, place the bag in a bowl of warm (maybe
120 F) water, and submerge it with a spoon, rock, or other heavy
object of your choosing. It will take about 15 - 20 minutes for a
mouse to go from frozen to warm. You may need to add more hot water
after 10 - 15 minutes if it cools off too much.

If you post on www.kingsnake.com you may be able to find someone near
you that can assist in feeding him the first time or two.

Awesome... Thanks for the tip. I tried that and it warmed the mouse up
and he seemed a little interested, but still doesn't seem to want to
eat. I am starting to think that maybe he is going to shed or something
cause he looks kinda dry and dull looking. His humidity is about 55% or
so. So I don't believe that it is too dry in his enclosure. I am going
to go talk to the people where I got the snake and maybe they can tell
me something about feeding. Hopefully they weren't lieing when they
said he eats just fine!!

Well, thanks again!

Make sure the mouse is thawed and at room temp. Feeding him or her a frozen
mouse is bad for them.

I just got a baby corn snake and it hasn't been eating either. Someone on a
newsgroup suggested that I get a smaller container for feeding instead of
leaving it in the 10 gallon aquarium that I keep it in. It hasn't worked so
far though. But it has only been a couple of hours. And this being Saturday,
he was fed last Sunday. And maybe since he (or she) is in a new enviroment,
it may take awhile.

Hope you enjoy your snake. They are really great pets.
