<yesterday at the apr village entrance from the Bridge>
"Hey! Snowbelle!" shouted Toofer. "It's Sweetbunny, Snowbelle! It's Sweet!"
Snowbelle looked up from the baby clover patch where he'd been contentedly
munching on the day's new crop of the sweet greens. His big uppy ears swung
forward as he heard Toofer's call. Toofer always knew where to find him. It
was just one of those things about the Bridge. As Messenger, Toofer just
Knew where to find Snowbelle when it was time to Greet another apr rabbit.
"Sweet? Already? Ahhh, I see. Her hoomin must have given her the Great Gift.
She wasn't expected quite yet, so that must be it. " said Snowbelle,
thoughtfully.
"Yep, that's it all right." Toofer breathed heavily. "Muffy said to find you
right away so you could be there for her. And I already told Snow. She's
been so worried about her baby girl and about her hoomin." Toofer looked
slightly chagrined as he said that last. "Muffy said it was okay to tell her
first."
"I know Toofer. Snow's been hanging out by the Wishing Well and sending
Comfort roses to both of them for a few days now. And I know she visited
Amber in a Dream. To prepare him." Snowbelle spoke quickly as his feet
twitched. When the Call came, he felt he could almost fly to the Bridge!
"I'm on my way Toofer. Thanks for the message."
And with that, Snowbelle was off. The apr Village residents knew Sweetbunny
was on her way. It had been talked about for days. She had gained quite a
reputation in the Village as she'd passed her Time more than once thanks to
her hoomin's love and attention and Amber's support. Everybunny nodded as
Snowbelle's white blur blew by; Sweet was coming.
Snowbelle reached the Bridge and found Snowball already there, gazing
expectantly toward the mist at the far end of the Bridge. "No sign of her
yet?" Snowbelle asked.
"Not yet," Snow sighed. "I'm excited and sad Snowbelle."
"Sad?" Snowbelle asked.
"Well yes. I've missed her and Amber so since arriving here. And while I
can't wait to kiss my baby's soft fur again, I'm sad for my Amber. He's
going to miss her so much. I visited him in a Dream the other day and I know
he knew she was coming. I let him know I would meet her. And we would wait
together for him to join us."
Just then, a pretty orange-honey colored uppy-eared doe emerged from the
mist of the Bridge. It was Sweetbunny! Before Snowbelle could step forward
and Greet her, her eyes opened wide and she said "Mama! Mama!" and Snowbelle
wasn't sure who moved faster, Snow or Sweet, but the next thing he knew,
Snowie was nuzzling Sweetbunny and reassuring her, and Greeting her. He
smiled to himself; he saw now that Muffy knew exactly what he was doing when
he had Toofer tell Snow first.
"...and then our hoomin held me and cried and I knew she was going to let me
come to you mama. I knew she would. She loved me so much! And mama, she let
me stay with daddy amber and really I felt so good for so long but all of a
sudden I felt really sick and I just knew it was time. She wasn't sure
though, I could tell. But she let me come. She knew you'd be here for me,
mama. I knew you would be too." Sweet said gently. "I was never afraid to
come. I just didn't want to leave her or daddy until I had to."
"I know dear, I know." Snowie spoke quietly. "You were fortunate to have
Extra Time with them. But I'm glad you are here with me now, and we can let
them know you are safe."
Just then the two does noticed Snowbelle, who had been standing quietly to
one side, unwilling to disturb the reunion. "Sweetbunny dear, this is
Snowbelle. He normally does the Greeting around here, but sometimes the
Elder Council allows as how family can Greet. But he knows everybunny at the
bridge dear, and I'm sure you two will get to know each other shortly."
With that, Snowbelle leaned over and groomed Sweet's forehead and said
"Welcome." She closed her eyes and thought she really did feel welcomed.
And just then, Sweetbunny gave a full body shake and the last of the
earthdust fell from her body. She was whole again. And home, with mama. And
she just knew that daddy amber knew it. And her hoomin too. She would miss
them. But only until they were together again.
With that, two white bunnies and a honey-colored bunny turned, and three
fuzzy bunny butts disappeared over the ridge toward the meadow.
Rest in Peace Sweetbunny.
