Can anyone give me advice on what to do with my 7 year old female beagle who
has kidney failure. She is to the point of not eating very much at all,
maybe 10% of normal. We have tried all of the prescription, no protein food
and she refused to eat that weeks ago so we started feeding her whatever she
would eat. She looks a little better but she is still a sick little dog. Our
vet has suggested hydration via a IV twice per week and said that hydrating
her that way would prolong her life by 3 - 6 months but it costs $55 per
week for two treatments that I would do at home. Has anyone elso gone
through this? Did it help?
Thanks in advance for any advice

Tip #1 - if you haven't been to k9kidneys groups on yahoo, go. There is a
ton or reading - you don't even have to sign up. If you want to post, you
do need to register, but it's not hard. There are close to 700 people there
relating stories and what they've done and had success with.

We did sub-q fluids at home twice a day with my Jadee. Keeping your dog
hydrated will help flush out the toxins. It's well worth the money. I'm
squemish about needles, and I was able to do it. It's not hard. We did a
bag a day - half in the morning and half at night. Jadee was a 65 lb. lab.
