Going to get the book tonight and read it. Thanks so much for the info. Last night I went to my weekly one on one
training. We start group classes again in July. I explained to him that when out of the "home" he is a different dog.
He is coming to the house the next few lessons to observe things. He has even agreed that he acts like a spoiled brat
(really I think he is spoiled and I am at fault for that, after losing Pete, I think I was grieving so much.........) I
purchased a new shock training collar, and what a world of difference. This one is made by Tritronics, cost was $259
dollars. Web addy is www.collarclinic.com. and is used for sporting dogs and to correct problem behavior, as well as
obedience training. They send a tape and very lengthy booklets to read. Along with that my trainer has showed me the
proper ways to use it. I still feel it is what I needed, after other training methods had failed (I know many do not
agree, but with the issues here, it is working) He now comes when called, is starting to quit the biting and jumping,
not barking as much in the crate and not barking at neighbors excessively. He is actually starting to let me pet him
and love on him without trying to bite at my hands, seems he wants lovin' when he wants it and on his own darn terms.
Told you all he is a real stubborn boy. Now to work on the stealing things off desks, tables, counters. One thing at a
time........

Angie - been reading your posts about Duke and his behavior problems,
and don't know why I didn't think to share this sooner. A friend of
mine introduced me to a book that really helped in dealing with
Trouble. The title is 'The Dog Listener'. It may or may not help you
out, but certainly helped us. It deals with the pack mentality and
establishing yourself as the pack leader. Using the methods in the
book, which by the way are really simple, I was able to see a marked
improvement in her behavior. It's a pretty small book, easy reading,
and may be worth the effort.

It was interesting that Duke was well behaved when you took him to
work with you. We experience the same improvements in Trouble when
she is out of her 'home' environment. She is normally pretty well
behaved, but when you take her out of her environment she is the
perfect dog. We just took her to New Orleans for the weekend, stayed
in a great hotel, and everything was smooth sailing. She couldn't
have been better.
