Went to all the ocal lfs here today and to be honest, I did not find
one single angel fish I would spend my money on. PITYFULL......no rush
for them anyhow. Same for any o f the other fish as well. WEe left
with a list of fish etc to get, and did not get one single
fish......like I said earlier PITYFULL

But I did wind up with a bunch of submerged type pond plants, that
ought to be a big hit with the tropicals later this year once the
water warms up a bit......

I forgot more about ponds and koi than I'll ever know!

Hello Tristan.
It's all too common these days to see diseases Angelfish in shops.
Did you ask if they were from a local breeder or imported?
If you didn't...give them a jingle and ask. If the person says I don't
know...We get them from the whole saler.....they're imports that
stopped off at the Florida farms. Pass on them for sure and from
buying any fish at the store if you want to keep healthy angels. It's
just safer that way in case they had the virus.
I know Mr. Gardener from The Freshwater Aquarium group thinks I'm too
paranoid about it, but trust me....I've been specialzing in Angelfish
(as well as Bettas of course) for close to 30 yrs and the Angelfish
virus is as bad of an epidemic to Angelfish as human AIDs is to
humans.

Shame....but quite a common experience. The number of times I've been to
my LFS set on getting specific fish, inverts and in fact plants, to find
that they don't have quite what I am looking for.....I try to be
philosophical about it - afterall patience is one of the key things with
fishkeeping - even if it is frustrating when it is forced on us by not
being able to purchase what we want.

Don't give up on the angels - I'm pretty sure one day you will walk into
an LFS and find exactly what you are looking for - usually happens to me....

This is true. Only small, immature specimens can be found (babies really)
and this has been the case for years. Live Aquaria.com sometimes has good
specimens....sometimes.

Alpha,
I found 2 local shops that carry Angels from local breeders.
One...tiny babies. He has 3 old pairs that just keep spawning and
doesn't have the room to grow them out. This is why the store takes on
such ity bitties. Some about the body size of a lady's pinky nail.
The other, is a local Petland which I don't really care for. However,
they have a new owner who found a good breeder. He's got quarter body
size all the way up to salad plate breeders. This is where I got my
Gold pearlscale / marble cross male. I don't like the fact that
PetLand sells pups and kittens. So that's why I don't really care for
that store. It's rare that I buy from them, but when there isn't much
of a choise out there, if ya want a healthy Angel they have you buy
the short ones. = /

In my area, middle TN, the best angels are found in mom and pop aquarium/pet
stores. They buy from local breeders. I can also usually find locally
raised guppies and other commonly raised tropical fish.

So why does carol have to provide a point about her posts when you
and the others seem to post at will and could care less on what points
you all make either? Its plaian to see Tynk, you have a hard on for
CArol since she does appear to have a bigger followoing of posters and
does have knowledge of fish and ponds unlike youo and your fellkow
hpocrites like Jan and Gill who are only concerned about themselves
and use folks like they are expendable just as long as they get what
they are after.

Roy,
Once again you are digging up old posts and trying to start an
argument about something out of nothing.
Got tired of goig after the others so now it's my turn. If this is how
you want to waste your time, oh well.
SInce I've never done anything to you my self, you feel the need to
take something between 2 other people and try and run with it.
It was old and boring the first time around.

So you don't want this group to start being about tropical, freshwater
fish again?
Why not?
It would be nice for a change to actually discuss fish and not be
constantly off topic.
